Une maison du 18ème siecle, mais avec un confort moderne, des hôtes charmants, une cuisine basque accompagnée d’excellents vins, notre séjour chez l’habitant était 5 étoiles.
Chaque jour, une nouvelle surprise: une abbaye romaine, des villages anciens, la côte atlantique, chacune avec ses propres légendes et histoires.
Des découvertes culinaires variées: huîtres au bord du lac, cuisine locale traditionnelle dans une auberge, ou assis sous les platanes centenaires dans un restaurant gastronomique basque récompensé par Michelin. Et à chaque fois, la possibilité de parler français avec les serveurs.
Bien sûr, il y avait beaucoup de cours de français avec Sarah. Elle était si bien préparée, avec un peu de grammaire mais aussi des clips vidéo pertinents pour l’excursion de la journée. J'ai pratiqué et amélioré mon français oral et écrit, ainsi que ma compréhension chaque jour.
Quand je suis rentré chez moi, ma confiance était bien plus grande et les professeurs de mon école de français ont remarqué mes progrès !

"In 6 years of studying French, I haven’t had a better learning experience. There is really nothing like learning French in context. In the Pays Basque this includes 101 ways to talk about the weather! I was interested in culture and nature, so Sarah proposed a program based around visits to villages with historical and contemporary signifiance, as well as exploration of the countryside. The Pays Basque region of France is indeed very beautiful and fascinating. Sarah is very warm, welcoming and an easy-going host. She was enthusiastic for my success, and is a passionate and highly skilled teacher. She is creative and responsive, and rapidly adapted her lessons and our activities to my strengths and weaknesses. As a result we made extra visits to sites where I could benefit from a guided tour in French and Sarah made sure I understood the jokes! The program was enriched with many unplanned visits and impromptu activities, based around my interests. These included cultural museums, a concert and even a spin through an Emmaüs centre as I was interested in the story of l’abbé Pierre. My immersion in French language and all things Basque with Sarah was both enjoyable and enriching. It exceeded my expectations in improving my grasp of the spoken language. I recommend an immersion with Sarah in the strongest terms if you want to improve your confidence in French, immerse yourself in French culture and have fun at the same time."

"I came to France, Pays Basque, to partake in a week’s immersion course with Sarah of Be my Guest Immersion. My stay with Sarah and her family was wonderful and I loved every minute. I had my own bedroom, bathroom and toilet. Sarah prepared breakfast each morning and then a one to two hours French lesson which was suited to my ability. After my lesson we would be off on the day’s excursion where I had to speak French.
I had little to no confidence speaking French when I arrived but after Day 2 which was spent in Bayonne, I was attempting to speak French at every opportunity. Every day Sarah and I would have lunch at one of Sarah’s favourite restaurants that served traditional plates for that region. I was able to order meals and drinks and more importantly, understand what the waiter was saying.
Not only did my French improve but I saw wonderful parts of Pays Basque with beautiful little villages and farmers markets where I just had to try the cheeses! Everyday there was a new area to discover and Sarah was so informative about each place we visited. Espelette and Ainhoa were so very Basque but my favourites were Bayonne and of course, Biarritz which had the best undercover farmers market.
I would thoroughly recommend Sarah’s immersion course as it provides you with everything Francaise - language, food, wine, excursions and most important of all if you are a solo traveller, good company."

In May, husband and I spent a week with Sarah and her charming family home in the Pays Basque, living, breathing, learning and enjoying the French way of life. Every day we had fun, interesting, relevant lessons and then headed off into the countryside to explore the various regions around Pays Basque.

It's hard to know where to start. This is more than just language learning.... it's a great chance to explore the Basque region of France, learn about the history and culture of the region, and cook French dishes for lunch and dinner. (Finally, I will be able to make a decent tartiflette.) Throughout, you'll get a chance to improve your French as you go.
Sarah's patient, a great teacher, and has a really good sense of humor. She's great to hang out with.
It was hard to leave-- a great sign of a good scene, all around. And yes, my French definitive improved, too-- including a few useful phases that are widely used yet probably NSFG. (Not Safe for Google. :)

"My experience with Sarah at Be My Guest French Immersion in the Basque Country was truly exceptional from start to finish. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed—not just as a student, but as a guest.
The food was magnificent. Every meal felt thoughtfully prepared. Eating together became part of the immersion—language, culture. Sarah even allowed me to prepare a meal and her father made the mayonnaise the way it should be made (I know it was just mayonnaise but it was so delicious.).
The people made the experience unforgettable for me (You need to meet Bertrand, and watch the butcher do his acting, etc…).
The excursions were perfectly chosen—rich in culture, history, and beauty—and thoughtfully integrated into the learning experience. They weren’t just outings; they were opportunities to live the language in real context.

I have been studying French for 3 years and decided that I wanted to take an immersion course to increase my French-speaking ability, as well as experience the culture by living with a French family. My wife (who does not speak French) and I took Sarah’s Be My Guest immersion course - which gave us everything we hoped for and more! Sarah has an ability to adjust her teaching to the level of her student. The daily one-on-one lessons were geared toward my individual needs and were very beneficial. After the morning lessons we spent the majority of the day out and about, experiencing the Pays Basque region and continuing the French “lessons” with conversations in the car, in the villages, chatting with merchants, restaurant staff, people at the market, cooking with her in the evenings and visiting with her family…it was a total immersion experience.
Sarah included my wife in everything, making her feel comfortable and planned the outings according to both of our interests. The villages that we visited, the restaurants, the historic sites, everything. Being asked to translate for my wife was a great way to increase my comprehension of spoken French.
Sarah is not only a great teacher but a wonderful guide, historian, photographer, chef, and host.
At the end of our stay I felt more confident in my ability to speak French and we now have a much greater understanding and appreciation of the Pay Basque region of France.

"My husband participated in the immersion course with Be My Guest, and I had the pleasure of tagging along for the experience. Although I don’t speak French, Sarah made me feel completely welcome and included from the very beginning. That meant so much to me, and it truly set the tone for the entire week.
Each day, Sarah took us out to explore the breathtaking Basque region. The beauty of the landscape alone is unforgettable — but it wasn’t just about the scenery.
